Kill Devil Hills police warn of phone scam spoofing the department’s non-emergency number

The Kill Devil Hills Police Department says another phone scam has been targeting local residents in recent days.

The scammers are spoofing the department’s non-emergency line, 252-449-5337, and telling people they have an arrest warrant for skipping court and they have to pay a fine over the phone.

Law enforcement say they will never call and demand money, and that it is nearly impossible to reclaim money lost to scammers who are usually from overseas.
