High risk of rip currents for all Outer Banks beaches today

A high rip current risk continues today, Thursday, Aug. 5, at all area beaches including Corolla, Duck, Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, Pea Island, Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, Buxton, Frisco, Hatteras Village and Ocracoke. Ocean swimming is not recommended. Obey RED Flags, stay out of the water!

​The strongest rip currents often occur a couple hours either side of low tide, which is around 11:35 a.m. today.

At beaches North of Oregon Inlet expect partly sunny skies until around 5 p.m., then sunny. High temperatures will be in the lower 80s with north winds around 10 mph.

At Hatteras Island beaches expect partly sunny skies with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms. High temperatures will be in the lower 80s with northwest winds around 10 mph, becoming north in the afternoon.
