A 60-year-old middle school teacher from the Richmond-area was arrested this week in Currituck County on multiple sexual assault charges.
According to the Currituck County Sherriff’s Office, Dean Lakey of Henrico, Virginia, was taken into custody Thursday under a fugitive warrant.
The Henrico Citizen reported Lakey was a teacher at Short Pump Middle School, and the alleged incidents took place during the 2016-17 school year.
A grand jury in Virginia indicted Lakey on August 25 for one count of rape, two counts of forcible sodomy and three counts of indecent liberties with a minor as a custodian.
School officals said Lakey had been on administrative leave since April when they learned of the investigation by Henrico Police and Child Protective Services, according to The Henrico Citizen.
Lakey was being held without bond at the Currituck County Detention Center until he is extradited to Virginia.
