Coast Guard Station Hatteras Inlet helped locate an overdue shrimping vessel that ran aground Saturday, bringing the crew back in safely.

The Coast Guard received the call at 10:30 a.m., reporting an overdue shrimping vessel, Miss Sophia, out of Engelhard.

Watch standers began calling local marinas for information on any potential sightings, which all came back negative. The Coast Guard was finally able to make contact with the captain and verify that the Miss Sophia was approximately four miles away from Engelhard. Following a loss of electronics followed by steering, Miss Sophia drifted and ran aground on Pringleton Shoal, Coast Guard Station Hatteras Inlet said in a Facebook post.

The CG29219 Response Boat-Small launched and after a brief search was on scene at by 2:15 p.m.

“After making communication with the captain and his mate, they were brought onboard the CG29219 who transported them to Engelhard. CG29219 made way back to the station and was moored at 1738,” the post said.
