Outer Banks Veterans Week is a 10-day celebration of the men and women for the sacrifices they have made and continue to make to protect our freedom.

There is a variety of events, ceremonies and specials for veterans on the Outer Banks, sponsored by Jack Brown’s Beer & Burger Jointthe Coastal Studies InstitutePublix, and Roanoke Island Women’s Club.  Thank you to Friends of Elizabeth II, Blue Star Mothers of North Carolina Chapter 6 Outer Banks, and American Legion for supporting Outer Banks Veterans Week.

Outer Banks Veterans Week is funded in part by the Outer Banks Visitors Bureau. This project was supported by the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.

Schedule of Events – Friday, November 5

Manteo First Friday Concert

Join us for a First Friday Concert in downtown Manteo on Friday, November 5th from 6:00pm-8:00pm featuring The Morgan Creek Bluegrass Band. The concert will take place at Dare County Arts Council, located at 300 Queen Elizabeth Ave, Manteo. The concert is free, family-friendly and open to the public.

Wednesday, November 10

​Annual Veteran’s Celebration Luncheon

The ​Annual Veteran’s Celebration Luncheon will be held on Wednesday, November 10th at 12:00 p.m at the Dare Center. Lunch will be provided as well as entertainment by The Riff Tides. You need to register by calling 252-475-9270 so we know how many to expect. Dare County Center is located at 950 Marshall C. Collins Drive in Manteo.

Thursday, November 11

Outer Banks Veterans Week Concert 

There will be a free Outer Banks Veterans Concert on Veterans Day in the backyard at Jack Brown’s Beer & Burger Joint featuring rock n’ roll by Trick Fly starting at 6pm. The concert is free, family-friendly and open to the public.

November 13-14

2021 Veterans Writing Workshop

The 8th Annual Outer Banks Veterans Writing Workshop will be held at the UNC Coastal Studies Institute in Wanchese from 9am to 4pm on Saturday, November 13 and Sunday, November 14. Writer, educator, editor and Veteran Dario DiBattista will lead this year’s Veterans Writing Workshop, which is titled A Guide To Telling Your Stories. The workshop is free for Veterans, active-duty military and their family members, and it includes complimentary breakfast and lunch. Veterans Day Ceremonies on the Outer Banks:
Southern Shores

The Veterans Day Ceremony in Southern Shores will take place Thursday, November 11 at 11:00am at the Southern Shores Town Hall located at 5375 N. Virginia Dare Trail, Southern Shores.

Manteo

The Veterans Day Ceremony in Downtown Manteo will take place Thursday, November 11 at 11:00am at the Dare County Veterans Memorial, 300 Queen Elizabeth Avenue, Manteo.

Nags Head

The Veterans Day Ceremony in Nags Head will take place Thursday, November 11 at 11:00am at Nags Head Town Hall located at 5401 S. Croatan Highway, Nags Head.

Kill Devil Hills 

The Veterans Day Ceremony in Kill Devil Hills will take place Thursday, November 11 at 12:30pm. The ceremony will be held at the Veterans Memorial on Veterans Drive in Kill Devil Hills.

Meineke Car Care Center is offering free basic oil changes for Veterans on Thursday, November 11 from 7:30-3pm. Meineke is located at 1800 S. Croatan Highway, Kill Devil Hills and open 7:30am-3:00pm. Please bring a military I.D.

Morgan Family Dentistry in Kitty Hawk is doing their 7th Annual Veteran’s Dental Clinic on Friday, November 5 from 8am to 3pm. Walk-ins are welcome. Please bring proof of service. For more information call 252 261 2358.

North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island is offering free admission for all Veterans, active-duty military and their spouses and dependents on Veterans Day, November 11. The aquarium is located at 374 Airport Road, Manteo and is open daily from 9am-5pm.

Outer Banks Sporting Events is offering Veterans 10% off the registration fee for the Outer Banks Marathon using code RunnerGuide. You must bring a copy of email confirmation to bib pickup.

Shutters on the Beach in Kill Devil Hills is offering 10% off vacation stays for Veterans.

Dare County Veterans ID Card Info: 

The Dare County Board of Commissioners created the Veterans Advisory Council in respectful recognition of the service and sacrifice of all Dare County Veterans. DCVAC’s signature program is the Dare County Veterans I.D. Card. If you are interested in receiving a Veterans I.D. Card, you will need your DD214 form showing an honorable discharge and a driver’s license with a Dare County address. Many local businesses support our Veterans and want to say ‘thank you’ for all you have done to protect and serve our nation and the I.D. Card enables you to receive discounts off goods and services at many local business locations. If you would like further information about how to obtain your I.D.
