Moped operator dead after rear-ending stopped car in Kill Devil Hills

A 58-year-old Kill Devil Hills man died Saturday after the moped he was operating ran into the back of a car stopped at a traffic signal on U.S. 158.

The crash happened around 1 p.m. at the intersection of North Croatan Highway and West Fifth Street, according to Kill Devil Hills Police Department Capt. J.C. Towler.

Kenneth Krick was traveling southbound when he collided with the back of the stopped vehicle driven by a 38-year-old man who had recently moved to the Outer Banks. Krick was thrown from the moped and died from his injuries at the scene.

Weather was not a factor in the collision and no charges will be filed, Towler said.
