‘Election Hero Day’ recognizes local election staff members

The Dare County Board of Commissioners declared Monday, November 7, 2022, “Election Hero Day” in an effort to show appreciation and support for Dare County Elections department staff members and precinct workers throughout the county.

The decision to pass a resolution honoring the 100-plus individuals who have already played an integral role in the processes leading up to Election Day—which takes place Tuesday, November 8, 2022—was reached unanimously during the Dare County Board of Commissioners meeting that was held at 9 a.m. Monday morning.

“We have county Elections staff and precinct workers that help out with every single election that we have here in Dare County,” said Dare County Board of Commissioners Chairman Bob Woodard. “And I thought it was appropriate that we certainly honor those individuals who work our polls, who allow us to exercise our right to vote and [who] support that and help us get through the process.”

As of Saturday, November 5, 2022, 8,841 of the 31,886 registered voters in Dare County had completed one-stop early voting, with the Dare County Elections department also having already processed 488 absentee ballots.

According to the resolution that was passed by the board, “November 7, 2022, has been declared ‘Election Hero Day,’ which is a 501(c)3 nonprofit program created by the Civic Responsibility Project in an effort to recognize the immense importance and work of election administration staff members and precinct workers across the nation.”

The Dare County Board of Elections is governed by a five-member board that is appointed by the North Carolina State Board of Elections and has the responsibility of safeguarding the will of the people, protecting democracy, and establishing fairness and equity for all in the process of self-governance.

The mission of the Dare County Board of Elections is to provide open, honest and professionally managed election services to the community—and to ensure that these elections are free, fair, accurate, convenient and accessible to all voters in Dare County.

The resolution noted that there are approximately 100 precinct workers from throughout Dare County who work diligently to support local elections staff at the county’s three early voting locations, as well as all 16 precincts on Election Day, to help administer a smooth voting process for the citizens of Dare County.

By voting unanimously to pass the resolution, the Dare County Board of Commissioners officially declared, November 7, 2022, as “Election Hero Day” and formally expressed their sincere appreciation and support for the Dare County Board of Elections, Dare County Elections department staff members and precinct workers throughout the Outer Banks.

The 2022 General Election will take place today, Tuesday, November 8, 2022. Polls are open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Election Day. To find your polling location, please click here.
