Town of Manteo announces upcoming Christmas activities, events

Tradition, sparkle, laughter, and joy all wrapped up with holiday spirit.  There is something so very special about Christmas in Manteo!  It is a time of festivities, celebrating community, and Christmas cheer!

Kicking off the holiday season and keeping with tradition, the Town Christmas tree will shine ever so bright on Friday, December 2, 2022 at 6:00 PM in downtown Manteo.  The evening is filled with Christmas carols, dancing, hot cocoa, Christmas cookies, reindeer games, a special guest reading of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas, and the lighting of the Town’s Christmas Tree.

The fun continues on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. with the 50th annual Christmas parade!  The parade route winds its way through the streets of downtown beginning at Manteo High School and ending at the Roanoke Island Maritime Museum.  The fabulous floats, bands, dancers, Christmas characters, and more are always something to see each and every year.  We can’t wait to see who wins First, Second, and Third Place in this year’s ever so special parade!

Santa is coming to Town riding his very own fancy red sleigh (aka Roanoke Island Volunteer Fire Department truck) on Friday, December 9, 2022 at 5:30 PM.  Santa will visit Manteo neighborhoods greeting children with a wave and a great big HO HO HO!  Santa’s route will be shared so everyone can find their favorite spot along the way to see the jolly ‘ole fellow.

Christmas decorations throughout Town add a little extra sparkle each and every year.   Local businesses and organizations are invited to participate in the “Making Storefronts Bright” contest again this year. Decorate your storefront in the spirit of the holiday season and be entered into a random drawing for prizes.

Many thanks to the Roanoke Island Garden Club for organizing the wreath contest each and every year.  Wreaths are decorated by local businesses and organizations and hung throughout downtown Manteo adding even more beauty to the area.  The winning wreaths are hung in very special locations for all to enjoy!

Wait!  Don’t forget to write your letter to Santa and drop it off in the little red mailbox downtown by the Christmas Tree throughout the holiday season.

Christmas in Manteo is always a special time of year filled with lots of holiday cheer!
