Elijah Campbell, son of Mike and Heather Campbell of Grandy, was inducted into the NC 4-H Honor Club, one of the highest honors a 4-Her can achieve. Twenty-six new 4-H Honor Club members were tapped during a candlelight ceremony, Saturday July 22, 2023 during the opening assembly of NC 4-H Congress.
Elijah was in Japan, participating in the 4-H International Exchange program this summer and was not able to attend the Honor Club tapping ceremony. In a heartwarming display of collaboration, the State 4-H Staff, the NC International Exchange Coordinator and the LABO (Japan) Coordinator, came together to ensure that he could still be involved in the induction ceremony. Understanding the significance of this milestone event they were able to utilize technology to virtually connect him and his family to the tapping ceremony so that he could participate and be celebrated alongside his peers.
Elijah has participated in 4-H for the last 12 years specifically in the areas of Equine Science, STEM/ Electric Energy, Citizenship, Service Learning and Public Speaking. He has represented Currituck County at NC 4-H Congress, Citizenship NC Focus, NC 4-H Youth Voice, NC 4-H Electric Congress and National 4-H Congress.
Membership in the Honor Club is based on service to the 4-H program, leadership, moral standards, 4-H activities and project achievement. Less than one-half of one percent of North Carolina 4-Hers are selected for membership each year. Members must be at least 16 years old and have a minimum of three years 4-H experience.
